Down On Downton Abbey

Where do I begin,
Blindsided at the very least,
Shocked and saddened,
Curious as to why,
Wondering what will come next
and if I will watch it.

The rape of Anna.

Why did the writers choose
this story line?

Will you continue to watch?

Never have watched it, although I've heard all sorts of good things about the series.

I am not certain I want to view this episode. I have it recorded. Life is too full of sadness. I do enjoy the clothing and jewelry in Downton. Peace and Joy...

no I will not watch any more as my granddaughter was raped in real life the previous evening and dramas using rape, murder etc are so very upsetting to those who have gone down the path in real life. I only realised this after our ordeal.

Shocked, because I expect more from PBS than sensationalized tv.

I sincerely hope your granddaughter's attackers are caught and punished to the full extent on the law and also may they get a big taste of their own medicine while they are in jail.
That episode has left me shaken....with your granddaughter having gone through such a thing....I hope you did not watch the episode.

Up to this episode, I loved it! I have it all recorded...not sure if I will watch still upsetting.

It broke my heart as well....I think we all love Anna's character and her strength. To see her brought to this was upsetting.

Yes, there are so many good things about the show. Seeing the costumes and knowing all the work that has gone into creating each one. Such attention to detail and the characters are all well developed.

I so hope you are right.

I tried to get into this when it first started and all my friends were watching, but it was boring to me, so I've never watched again. I've never liked those kind of upstairs/downstairs stories, and this one didn't change my mind about that. It doesn't matter that bad things happen in life. When I'm watching fiction entertainment, I'd as soon not have a dose of reality!

Well said!

I don't have TV so got season 1 from the library to see what all the hub-bub was about. I watched about the first 3ish episodes and was about ill from it all - haven't wondered about it since then. It just confirmed once again why I don't have TV:)

I am certain being without TV is a great advantage...all the extra things I would get done!

Oh your post brings it all back Debbie - we watched this series late last year in New Zealand.
It was horrific and we are so lucky not to have lived in those times.
That was the harsh reality of being part of a working class society in many countries in those times.
We watched Part 1 of the Christmas Special on Tuesday evening - you will enjoy that if you haven't already had it.
Oh Debbie - the clothes are exquisite and knowing how you love beautiful stitching, you have a treat in store!
Hugs

I was totally shocked and I hated it. I did read an interview she did and she said that it was something that happened frequently back in those days and that she didn't mind it being written in. I guess if we want the show to feel "real" then we are going to see things we don't like.

The clothing and details are exquisite, I sure but I will have to wait and see the photos on Pinterest and other places. I have decided I won't be watching the show. Your observation of it being horrific says it all.

I read those same reviews and I am certain those things did happen....that fact being noted, I guess I don't want a fiction show, feeling too "real".
